UGC NET Exam Information 2025 — Pattern, Syllabus & Eligibility

About UGC NET Examination

The University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) to determine eligibility for Assistant Professor positions and for awarding Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) to Indian nationals.

Exam Pattern

Paper 1 (General Paper)

  • Questions: 50 MCQs
  • Marks: 100 (2 marks each)
  • Duration: 60 minutes
  • Negative Marking: None

Paper 2 (Subject Paper)

  • Questions: 100 MCQs
  • Marks: 200 (2 marks each)
  • Duration: 120 minutes
  • Negative Marking: None

Total Duration: 3 hours | Total Marks: 300

Eligibility Criteria

  • • Master’s degree with at least 55% marks (50% for reserved categories)
  • • Final year students can also apply
  • • No age limit for Assistant Professor eligibility
  • • Age limit for JRF: Maximum 30 years (relaxation for reserved categories)
